[Friday, 14th November 2025] On Friday, 14th November, Daystar University conferred degrees and awarded diplomas to 2,248 graduands during the University’s 48th graduation ceremony that was held at its Main Campus Athi River.

Among the graduands were 646 diplomas, 1177 undergraduates, 396 postgraduates, and 29 PhDs.  Among the 29 PhDs was Nation Media Group’s Editor-in-Chief, Joseph (Joe) Onditi Ageyo.  Thirty-five (35) undergraduates graduated with honours, with the School of Law producing the best student, Ms. Awuor Omondi Abbigail.

Speaking on the theme: Commissioned for Impact, the guest of honour, Former President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and current Chairman of the Board of Directors, Telkom Kenya, Mr. Edward (Eddy) Njoroge, advised the graduands to anchor their destinies on their internal character rather than external factors.  He encouraged them to emulate the five principles of:

  • Discipline - by choosing to honour their word and showing up on time.

  • Focus - which shapes direction and destiny

  • Compassion - by adding value to others.

  • Responsibility - being good stewards of time and finances, and
  • Faith - letting God remain at the center of what they do.

“You must transform yourself first before you can transform others,” he said.

The University Chancellor, Dr. Florence Muindi explained that the Daystar culture has become a character brand built on its core values. Key expressions of this brand, she noted, included the family bond, sincere practice of faith, honour and appreciation through mutual support, and a standard of excellence showcased in the delivery of University events, ceremonies and services.

"This brand is what we are commissioning you to take to the world... May you be visible as you practice what is inherent in you and in the brand," she said.

Dr. Muindi further charged the graduands to be true and real to themselves.  "We are sending you forth to go and be authentic, marked out as one who bears the Daystar brand.”

While acknowledging members of University Council and Daystar Company (Trustees), the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. George Njoroge, encouraged the Class of 2025 to be good stewards of the knowledge they had gained.  "The story of Daystar University is now your story. Walk with humility and live with integrity," he advised.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro focused his speech on three pillars of faith, prayer, and leadership. He encouraged the graduands to embrace faith as their banner, practice humility, and never forget their alma mater.

“I hope that as you go out you will emulate the faith that we have built in you and embrace the value of sacrifice,” said Prof. Ayiro.

While DVC Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Samuel Muriithi noted that the graduation theme served as a reminder of their purposeful identity and God's calling in their lives. "We are commissioning you to impact the world," he said, further urging the graduands to use the scriptures as a guide, and to seek God during times of trouble.

In her brief speech, the 2025 best student (Valedictorian), Ms. Awuor Omondi Abbigail, acknowledged her parents and reminded her peers that the academic journey does not end with graduation.

"Today marks the end to our studies... This journey had many challenges, but with the support of our parents, Daystar staff, and faculty, it was a successful one. Let us live in excellence in our community. Let the Daystar light shine on us," she said.

This year, the graduating class embodied a diverse representation of 15 African nations: Rwanda, Burundi, Nigeria, Sudan, DRC, South Sudan, Ghana, Cameroon, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Liberia, Mozambique and Kenya which carried a majority of the graduands.

Also in attendance were members Daystar University Council, Daystar Company Limited (Trustees), University Management Board, Government Officials, Diplomats, Vice Chancellors of other universities, representatives of corporate organizations, and the Clergy.
