[Athi River Campus - 20th May 2025], The Company Board Chairman Rev. Dr. Matthews Mwalw’a has this week unveiled five new Company Board members.
The new members were introduced to the Daystar University community during the Tuesday Chapel Service at the Main Campus Athi River.
The five include Mr. Ken Obimbo who comes in to serve as Deputy Company Board Chair and Mr. Peter Kiragu Wachira as the Company Board Secretary. Four others serving as Board members are Bishop Prof. Zablon Nthamburi Company Board, Mr. Kamau Nganga, Ms. Hephziba Beulah, and Mr. Peter Mbuthia Wachira
In the same meeting, Rev. Dr. Mwalw’a announced retirement from the Daystar Company Board of Dr. Stanley Mukolwe who served as the Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Rose Ngara-Muraya who served as Secretary to the Board, and three members namely Rt. Rev. (Bishop) Joseph Kanuku, Ms. Catherine Butaki and Mrs. Bernice Gachegu as Company Board members.
Addressing the congregation, Rev. Dr. Mwalw’a encouraged the new students to run to God in all their endeavors. He fondly recalled how he joined Daystar University as the Founding Chaplain in 1988.
“Looking at what Daystar University has become, I realize how back then I did not fathom how big the vision was”, he reminisced.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Laban P. Ayiro welcomed the Company Board, as Trustees led by the Chair Rev. Dr. Mathews Mwalw’a, and the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. F. George Njoroge.
The Vice Chancellor observed that the visit was significant for both the incoming Company Board members and those exiting as their term on the Board comes to an end. Company Board members serve for a period of three years renewable once.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the tremendous growth that has taken place in the institution over the past six years since he joined Daystar University. Prof. Ayiro took pride in how the University grounds are blossoming with trees, providing a serene learning environment, and how wooden benches in the Amphitheatre have been replaced with modern chairs.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated that Daystar University has courageously lifted the ethos of excellence, transformation and servanthood into virtues.
“We are constantly praying to God for continued miracles in the institution,” said Prof. Ayiro.
Later, the Vice Chancellor gave the Company Board Members a guided tour of the Main Campus, joined by the DVC Finance, Administration and Planning Prof. Muturi Wachira, the Chief Manager-Human Resource Mr. Pius Muia and the Director of Main Campus Dr. Daniel Robert Aswani, besides others.
Key projects they visited included the solar powered water borehole, the Faye Smith Hostel for female students, the Sports Ablution Block, the David Musau Mumama Learning Complex (DMMLC), which is set to house the School of Law, and the Poultry Farm which currently has 2,500 broilers, 1,000 layers and production of 40 trays of eggs per day, among other projects.
As the delegation proceeded to Senate Room for the handing over ceremony, they could not hide their admiration of the positive changes that have taken place at the University under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro.
