Daystar University Receives New Students

[Athi River Campus, May 12, 2025] Daystar University was a hive of activity as it opened its doors to receive new students joining the May 2025 Trimester which marks the end of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Sounds of jubilation filled the air at Main Campus Athi River as the Orientation Team, comprising older students drawn from DOULOS, Daystar Christian Fellowship, DC3 and the DUSA leadership welcomed the new students.

The orientation week began with the verification of students’  academic documents at the PAC Court, facilitated by the Admissions and Records department.

The orientation team kept the new students in high spirits in small groups, known as DOULOS families, through which the older students, serving as parents, help the new students to seamlessly settle down on Campus.

Later at 10:00am, both the new students and their parents converged at the Amphitheater for the Vice Chancellor’s welcome address.

The VC was accompanied by the Management Board, Senate, faculty, staff, and student leaders.

The event began with an insightful sermon delivered by University Chaplain Rev. Miano Weche. In a sermon titled Learning, Rev. Weche stated that learning sets people free to act in a way that creates long-lasting impact in their lives. He encouraged the new students to shun fear, which he said turns people into imposters, and rather choose to be guided by love.

Addressing the parents, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor- ARSA, Prof. Samuel Muriithi noted that Daystar University was known for leadership.

“When you bring your student to this university, it is our belief that your sons and daughters will become leaders,” He said.

He highlighted the University’s focus on quality education, stressing that Daystar is known for quality teaching. He added that Daystar University had adopted the Problem Based Learning (PBL) which equips students with skills in critical thinking and problem-solving.

The DVC FAP Prof. Muturi Wachira highlighted various infrastructure projects in the university which support students’ learning experience.  He cited the School Nursing Phase I and 2, the ongoing construction of the David Musau Mumama Learning Complex (DMMLC) for the School of Law, the Kitchenette for self-catered students and the Faye Smith Hostel for female students as new projects that are enhancing students' experience.

The event climaxed with the Vice Chancellor’s address in which Prof. Ayiro called on the new students to always desire the best in their academic dealings, to shun away from mediocrity, and to remember their story.

“I urge my students to aim high and not socialize their guilt,” he said.

He further advised parents not to create falsehood in their children, but to rather present the true reality to them.
