[Athi River Campus - April 4, 2025] In response to the prevailing global crisis on climate change, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, launched the National Tree Planting Initiative on 21st December 2022, with a commitment to plant 15 billion trees by the year 2032. The move is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and curb deforestation.

For Daystar University, tree planting is a constant activity anchored in the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative to green the Main Campus Athi River, since 2019. Over time, the initiative has transformed Daystar University in Athi River Campus into a beautiful spectacle.

On 4th April 2025, the VC's greening initiative received a boost when the Machakos County Forest Conservator, Ms. Milka Mutua led a team from Kenya Forest Service to plant trees at Daystar University, in partnership with the Projects Manager, Mrs. Corretta Ndunda.

In her remarks Ms. Milka Mutua urged Daystar University to take advantage of the short rains to plant more trees. She expressed her joy in witnessing Daystar University's dedicated efforts towards tree growing.

"We urge our stakeholders to take advantage of this conducive environment to plant more trees. We will continue carrying out tree planting exercise until May in order to achieve good tree cover," stated Ms. Mutua.

Mrs. Coretta Ndunda expressed her gratitude to God, the Kenya Forest Service, and the dedicated efforts of Ms. Milka Mutua and her team towards Daystar University. "We are all witnesses to this great day, and our doors are open to the Kenya Forest Service to plant more trees at Daystar University," she affirmed.

The partnership between Daystar University and the Kenya Forest Service underscores the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its active participation in national efforts to address climate change.
