[Nairobi Campus - April 7, 2025] Daystar University Communication students had the opportunity to listen to Stephen Letoo, a veteran journalist, at the Nairobi Campus DAC Auditorium. Stephen Letoo is a renowned political reporter at Citizen TV.
As he introduced the guest lecturer, the Dean School of Communication, Prof. Levi Obonyo, emphasized how important it is for students to connect with people working in the field, saying that Mr. Letoo's presence was inspiring. He thanked Mr. Letoo for taking the time to speak to the students.
Prof. Obonyo encouraged the students to make use the School's resources such as Shine FM and the Involvement Newspaper to improve their skills. He also advised them to be creative in their approach to journalism.
In his lecture, Stephen Letoo shared his personal journey into the world of journalism. Revealing that he went to school without shoes, Letoo said his dream to become a journalist began while a child as he watched KBC (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation) and admired the reporters.
While in Kabianga High School, Mr. Letoo took the initiative to start the school’s first journalism club. He later joined the University of Nairobi, where his hard work led to an internship at Citizen TV, which he pursued with great enthusiasm.
After his internship, Mr. Letoo gained more experience working for Kiss TV during an election period. In 2016, he was hired again by Citizen TV, where he grew to become a Senior Political Reporter.
Looking back at his career, Mr. Letoo highlighted his coverage of the GenZ protests last year as a significant moment. He also spoke about the challenges that mainstream media is facing due to the rise of the digital age.
Mr. Letoo encouraged the students to have a strong passion and determination to succeed in their careers.
The lecture provided valuable insights and encouragement for the aspiring journalists as they navigate their path in the evolving media landscape.
